Splatoon Gear Guide

Splatoon has dozens upon dozens of gear to equip to your inkling. The amount of apparel and accessories is quite impressive and is a stark reminder of the amount of effort that was poured into Splatoon. If you are looking for a particular gear for your inkling, you have come to the right place. This is the most comprehensive information database for Splatoon gear on the internet (well I hope so).

The basics

Gear comes in three categories: Clothes, headgear and shoes. You can equip one of each category to your inkling; that is one piece of gear for your head, body and shoes. The importance of Gear cannot be overstated. Gear gives you additional perks and abilities that will greatly assist you in the battlefield. It goes without say that you will need every advantage afforded to you.

Gear abilities and star counts

Each individual piece of gear comes with ONE predetermined ability and a star count. The predetermined can be one of dozens ranging from abilities that increase the ink efficiency of your main weapon to perks that reduce the spawn time.

Moreover, it is important to understand that individual gear can gain additional abilities with prolong use. The number of additional abilities that a gear can get is determined by the amount of stars. For example, If a piece of clothing has 2 stars then only two additional ability can be gained. The rarest gear and best gear will have a 3 star rating.

It is important to note that the additional gear abilities are selected at random.

How to get 3 star gear in Splatoon

Rare gear will come and go in the shopping district. As you level up more 3 star gear will appear in the shops, but what appears is up and arms at this point.

In my opinion, the easiest way to get 3 star gear in Splatoon is to Special order it from Spike. In the main plaza area, you can view other players weapon set and gear from Miiverse. If you happen to find a particularly good piece of clothing, you can special order from the screen and Spyke will deliver it the next day. Unfortunately, he will only be able to deliver one item a day and it usually comes at a premium price. However, you shouldn’t be perturbed as it is worth it, particularly if you are low level and in need of good attire.

Of course, you could just wait until it appears in the shop, but I highly recommend being selective and ordering from Spike. I, myself, have gotten some really good gear just from Spike.

3 Comments on "Splatoon Gear Guide"

  1. I feel like I wasted 5000 Coins for Fake Contacts

  2. Quick question, does the star count dictate the effectiveness of a primary ability? For ex. 3 star gear gives 10% more damage and one star gear gives 3% more damage as a primary ability
