Consumer market research firm – NPD – has released its video game sales figures for the month of August. While full disclosure of the numbers are limited by those who have payed for the service, fortunately, we do have official Press release to give us a glimpse on how Nintendo products during the month of February.
Not surprising, the 3DS family was the best selling videogame hardware of the month. With the launch of the New 3DS in North America – the 3DS has sold nearly 395,000 units in the US. For comparison sake, the New 3DS XL has sold 130 percent more units than the 3DS XL in the same time frame.
As for software, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D was the best selling software moving 515, 000 units (retail and physical). Capcom’s Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate sold 290, 000 units, making it the fastest selling MH entry in the US.
The good news also extends to the Wii U as 2015 sales are up 20 percent over the same period in 2014. Super Smash Bros has reached 1.5 million units life time to date in the US and 3.5 million Amiibo’s have been purchased.
Overall the month of November has been pleasant for Nintendo and will likely continue for the next few months with a number of key software launching for both the 3DS and Wii U.
