In a surprise move that caught many off guard, Nintendo has announced that they have joined with DeNA in business and capital alliance to make deliver mobile games with Nintendo IP’s.
Nintendo will be cooperating with Mobile game specialist DeNA to deliver in the long term a number of original Nintendo games to the mobile platform. Both companies will be dipping into the wealth of Ninty IP’s to deliver original games that have been optimized for the mobile platform. President of Nintendo – Satoru Iwata – has clarified that they have no intentions of porting existing games to the mobile platform.
“There are significant differences in the controls, strengths and weaknesses between the controllers for dedicated game systems and the touchscreens of smart devices. We have no intention at all to port existing game titles for dedicated game platforms to smart devices because if we cannot provide our consumers with the best possible play experiences, it would just ruin the value of Nintendo’s IP.”
In addition, DeNA will be providing Nintendo with a premium membership service that will be accessible from Smart Devices, PC and Nintendo systems. The membership service is scheduled for fall 2015 launch.
To secure the longevity of the partnership, Nintendo will purchase 10% of DeNA oustanding stocks, meanwhile, DeNA will acquire 1% of Nintendo’s stock.
Further information on this partnership while be announced later down the track.
