After the disastrous E3 Digital Event, doubts about the future software support for Wii U has been stirring among the dedicated gaming community. The general pessimism is not unfounded, as there are only two confirmed Wii U titles for the entire 2016, which is seriously troubling for current and prospective Wii U owners. Commentators have suggested that Nintendo may have prematurely cut support for the Wii U.
In today’s shareholder meeting attempted to relieve some of these fear by reiterating that Nintendo is prioritizing satisfying current owners of their hardware.
“The NX is new hardware, and will start from 0. However, the 3DS and Wii U have install bases. Immediately cutting off software for previous hardware upon the release of a new machine is inefficient.” said Iwata
He continued, “We will continue making 3DS and Wii software while preparing for the NX. We are prioritizing satisfying customers who purchased the Wii U.”
Perhaps, Iwata’s reassurance will be enough to satisfy worried owners. But action do speaker louder than world, so will we have to wait to find out whether Iwata intends to uphold his promises.
