Today, Nintendo held a mini Nintendo Direct to cover the announcement made at yesterdays Japanese Broadcast. The newest bit of information and likely the most relevant at the moment, is that a new content update for Splatoon will be live at any moment.
The update will unlock Rank Battles, which allows players above Level 10 to participate in more competitive rule-sets. The first rule-set being Splat Zones, whereby players battle out to take control of one area of the map.
In addition to Rank Battles, a new stage and weapon will be available also. The new weapon is based on the NES Zapper called the N-Zap ’85, which is a rapid fire shooter weapon similar to the Splattershot Jr and the Aerospray MG. The new map is called Port Mackeral.
The update will be live today at 7 p.m. PT.
Splatoon is a third person online multiplayer game for the Wii U. It is available now worldwide.
