Dream Nintendo NX Launch Lineup

Speculation about Nintendo’s NX has been rife ever since the Digital Event. The lack of newly announced Wii U games beyond Shin Megami X Fire Emblem in 2016 has raised serious questions about the Wii U’s future and support for the console, and that it will indeed be replaced next year by the Nintendo NX. I’ll be lying to you If I said that I don’t have these reservations. Normally, I am more rational and calm mind than the typical internet dweller, but after seeing the Digital Event my faith in the Wii U has taken a serious beating, and I suspect that I am not the only one.

There is a real possibility that Nintendo is waning support of Wii U and moving the resources into the NX. The Legend of Zelda Wii U could very well be a cross-gen title, releasing for both the U and NX. Other titles like Pokken Tournament are suspect as well. While you may be disappointed with Nintendo’s Digital Event showcase or by the possibility that the Wii U may be replaced sooner than you expected, but surely the prospect of a new console is exciting.

To attempt to lift the spirits after the disappointing E3, I thought it might be a good idea to indulge ourselves in wishful thinking. In this case, I would like to discuss my dream launch line-up for the Nintendo NX, assuming it is a home console. More specifically, five first-party titles I would like to at the launch window of the Nintendo NX.

The Legend of Zelda Wii U

Nintendo can’t afford to debauch the launch of their next consoles. Well they can, but it would put them in the back foot at the start of the generation again. I personally see a lot of discussion about the possibility that Zelda Wii U will be moved as a cross generation title. That is to say that it will be release for both the Wii U and the Nintendo NX, similar to how Twilight Princess was released for the GameCube and the Wii U. Zelda Wii U will provide the NX with a launch blockbuster title that can move many copies and consoles. Not to mention that Zelda Wii U can be an excellent showcase of what the new console can do.

Nintendo Universe Amiibo Game

Nintendo hasn’t used Amiibo as a system seller. For most part they have pandered to the Nintendo enthusiasts that love collecting Nintendo stuff and their use has been superfluos. Some may not like it, but Nintendo needs to create a game that fully utilizes Amiibo, an experience with Amiibo integral to the experience, compelling enough to convince consumers to buy Amiibo and the NX. I believe that an Amiibo game that incorporates Nintendo’s full universe of IP will do an excellent job in convincing consumers of all fandom to jump.

Super Mario Sunshine Remake

In a perfect world, Nintendo will have a Mario title ready in time by the launch window. It would be foolish for Nintendo to show all their cards at the beginning and lose steam so quickly afterwards. Therefore having an original Mario game may be unreasonable and not a good idea if Nintendo wants regular blockbusters for the game. Therefore a remake of Super Mario Sunshine for Nintendo NX would be perfect for the launch of Nintendo NX. It allows Nintendo to have a 3D Mario ace later on, but also have a great Mario game at launch. Super Mario Sunshine has been a long demanded title and it should have no problem satisfying consumers with its sublime 3D platforming.

Diddy Kong Racing

Nintendo will need a good online experience for the launch window. I doubt Nintendo will have a Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros or Splatoon game ready for the launch window. I think these games will be reserved for the post launch years. For the launch, a Diddy Kong Race will fit the bill. A highly recognizable character following the same appealing gameplay formula of Mario Kart is setting Nintendo NX for a successful launch. Plus, I have a few friends who would breakdown in tears if a new Diddy Kong Racing is announced.

Pikmin 4

After the moderate success of Pikmin 3 on the Wii U, I sincerely hope that Pikmin becomes a regular franchise for Nintendo. It has been a few good years since Pikmin 3 has been released, so it is very possible that number 4 could be ready for the Nintendo NX. It’s fair to say that the NX will be a much more powerful console than the Wii U, therefore I would expect a detailed world with beautifully-deadly creatures. Hopefully, Nintendo will get its act together when it comes to online and have online multiplayer.
