Super Smash Bros has seemingly taken over Evo 2015. The event organizers have revealed that the current participant count for both Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. For Wii U has surpassed 1500 players each.
For comparisons sake in Evo 2014, Super Smash Bros. Melee reached 970 participating players. The growth from last year to this year is quite extraordinary and may be attributed to Nintendo’s recent embrace of the competitive community. This is of course Smash Wii U debut appearance at Evo and the signs suggest that the competitive community is equally as strong as Melee’s. When you combine the player count, the Smash community will be the largest present at this years championships.
Ultra Street Fighter remains the most popular standalone fighting game at Evo 2015. The organizers have suggested that player mark is closing on the 2000 milestone.
Evo 2015 will be held at Bally’s/Paris Las Vegas Casino between July 17 and July 19. The full lineup includes Ultra Street Fighter IV, Super Smash Bros. For Wii U, Killer Instinct, Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3, Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-, Killer Instinct, Mortal Kombat X, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, Super Smash Bros. Melee and Tekken 7.
