Nintendo, and Retailer’s for that matter, may have underestimated the demand for certain Amiibo figurines, as a number of Mascots are currently sold out in Amazon America and Amazon Canada. Of course, Retailers have been well prepared to meet the demands for the more recognizable Nintendo mascots such as Mario, Link and Pikachu.
As for the lower tier mascots, retailers may have underestimated the demand for these characters. Currently at Amazon Canada – Samus, Marth, Fox, Villager, and Wii Fit Trainer are all sold out. In the case of Amazon America – Marth, Wii Fit Trainer and Villager are out of stock. These mascots are relatively lesser-known in comparison to Nintendo’s bigger stars – which might explain the smaller orders from the retailers.
Despite this, I suspect the Amiibo product range to be a smash hit among the Nintendo community and the younger demographics. Amiibo’s will launch with 12 mascots at the cost of $12.99 each. The figurines will release alongside Super Smash Bros. For Wii U this holiday.
